Your Miami Manual for Pet-Friendly Hotels, Parks & More
August 15, 2018
If there’s one thing Miamians love, it’s their pets. And could you blame us? When the weather is beautiful and you’re in a place considered the third most pet-friendly city in America, bringing your furry friend along as you explore is always a good idea.
If you’re looking for pet-friendly options in the Miami area, you’re not alone. Luckily, there are plenty of pet-friendly hotels, parks, beaches and even restaurants around Miami.
The Best Pet-Friendly Beaches
If you’re in Miami, you’re going to want to hit the beach. There are several pet-friendly beaches in the area; these two are our two favorites.
Haulover Beach Park
Located just north of Miami Beach, Haulover Beach Park contains the largest stretch of undeveloped beachfront property in all of Miami-Dade County. The beach features super-soft sand, sparkling blue water and dogs splashing into waves.
Dogs are welcome to swim between towers #2 and #3 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm daily—just be sure to keep your pup leashed. And after you and your pup take a dip, check out the bark park near the south picnic area to play some fetch!
Hobie Beach is known as Miami’s favorite dog beach, and for good reason. The water is shallow, making it easy for dogs to swim and play safely.
When you’re not with your dog, Hobie Beach is known for its windsurfing. And don’t worry—rentals are available for out-of-towners. Whether you come for the dog beach or the waves, Hobie Beach is a great pet-friendly stop.
The Best Dog Parks
Miami is filled with dog-friendly parks. If you’re looking for an area where your pup can really let loose, these bark parks are a perfect choice.
Amelia Earhart Park
Dogs of all sizes are welcome at this park in Hialeah. Pet owners love the free weekday parking, complimentary doggie pick-up bags and drinking fountains. And with a separate area for small dogs, as well as puppy exercise equipment in the big dog area, Amelia Earhart Bark Park is totally play-worthy.
When it comes to clean, centrally located parks where pups are free to run wild, nothing tops the bark park at Tropical Park. Like other bark parks, this location offers free doggie pick-up bags and a water fountain for pups.
What’s unique to this spot is the weekly obedience lesson from the Miami Obedience Club, which you can register for online. Whether you want to party with your pup or teach him to sit, Tropical Park’s bark park should be at the top of your list.
The Best Pet-Friendly Hotels
Traveling with your furry friend can be a stressful ordeal. But it doesn’t mean you have to surrender to crazy price surges or tiny rooms for you and your pet. Miami knows how to make you feel at home—and that’s exactly why these hotels prioritize furry friends.
Known for welcoming any pet that can fit through the door (at no extra cost!), Kimpton hotels are serious pet paradises. And with three Miami locations—Surfcomber, Angler’s and EPIC (one of the best hotels in Miami)—every pet owner can find the hotel of their dreams. Even better: Every Kimpton hotel provides your pet with a treat-filled swag bag upon check-in.
Washington Park Hotel
Another great pet-friendly option that’s close to the beach is the Washington Park Hotel in South Beach. This
Insta-worthy spot loves pets, and you can even get 10 percent off your room rate when your dog comes along for the fun. Washington Park Hotel has a super-convenient central location, perfect for club-lovers, sand-seekers and foodies alike.
Food and Shopping
After romping around in the Miami sun, you and your pet are sure to be hungry. Luckily, these pet-friendly Miami spots make an afternoon out with your pup a breeze.
Matt Kuscher’s Restaurants
Miami restaurateur Matt Kuscher loves pets, which is why he welcomes dogs and their owners to dine together at all three of his Miami restaurants.
Check out Kush in Wynwood for the doggie meatloaf (and a burger for yourself). And if you’re feeling nostalgic for homemade goodies, share a meal with your pup at Coconut Grove’s Lokal. Or take your pet to The Spillover, Kuscher’s other Coconut Grove spot, for a “Cuban Chew-gar”. No matter which restaurant you choose, you’re in good hands. All of Kuscher’s Miami restaurants are dog-friendly and feature food and drinks just for pups.
The Café at Books & Books
Book lovers and dog lovers can agree: Books & Books locations are a perfect place to get lost on a lazy afternoon. Both the Miami Beach and Coral Gables shops and cafés love their furry clientele, offering pets a fresh bowl of water and plenty of dog treats while owners grab a bite to eat. After chowing down, you and your furry friend can explore the bookshelves in search of that perfect beach read.
Say you’ve come to Miami to get glammed up for a night on the town. Thanks to Dog Bar, your pet can dress to the nines right along with you. Located in the heart of Miami Beach, this pet paradise has been selling the most fashionable clothes, treats and toys since 1996. And if your pet could use a little post-travel pick-me-up, check out Dog Bar’s grooming services!
Downward with your Dog
Need a little help relaxing on your vacation? On the first Saturday of every month, a group of Miami people and pets meet up to do a guided yoga session and short run. If you’ve ever wanted to get fit with your pet, trying downward with your dog is a great way to start.
Visiting Miami is always a good idea—but bringing your pet can make it even more fun. Looking for pet-friendly travel to and from Miami? Visit our website for great everyday deals on pet-friendly travel. And tell us about your favorite pet-friendly spots on our Facebook!
